The L Word – The Complete First Season

This is how it all started — the lesbian cable TV series that took the world by storm. Showtime took a chance that just maybe, if they put time and money into a series about gay women, it might have an audience. Obviously it paid off big time.

Arguably the best quality [...]

Bound

Sizzlingly hot thriller, it’s smart and sexy, has mainstream production values, and features two lesbian protagonists who come out on top of the game. Corky (Gina Gershon) and Violet (Jennifer Tilly) plot to steal two million from the mob. If it isn’t the first full-fledged lesbian thriller, it’s certainly the best. Bound won’t disappoint.

Alien (The Director’s Cut)

For several generations of teen girls, Ellen Ripley was the ultimate shero. Stuck in space with a ravenous monster and nothing but her wits, Ripley single-handedly survives the carnage, defeats the relentless terror and heads for home. Or does she? This suspenseful classic sci-fi horror movie is one of the American Film Institute’s 100 Best Films of All Time. Scary good!

Terminator 2 – Judgment Day

An incredibly buff Linda Hamilton runs around with Ahnold-bot blowing up stuff and and saving the world yet again in this fast-paced, satisfying classic sci-fi action/adventure. This is one of those rare sequels that actually outdoes the original, with Robert Patrick inhabiting the most menacing, cold-blooded nemesis in cinema history, the implacable T-1000 assassin cyborg.

Les Vampires

Crafty, ruthless and charismatic Irma Vep is not a vampire in the classical sense, but she and her gang of jewel thieves are very much psychological bloodsuckers as they con, seduce and steal their way across the upper-crust landscape of Paris after WW1. An absorbing silent-era classic in serial form. A must for any serious [...]

Soapdish – Movie Review

SOAPDISH
Review by: Jennifer Brooks
Rating:
This is a smart, funny, fast paced comedy. Lots of movies that just plain suck are tagged “comedies” in attempts to trick people into watching them. This isn’t one of them; Soapdish is the real deal. It’s great the first time around and has a very high repeat viewing value.
Celeste [...]

The Ritz

Rita Moreno gives one of the most memorable performances of her career in this timeless, over-the-top 1975 comedy classic. Naive, fat schlub Gaetano Proclo needs a safe place to hide out from the mob, pronto – what he doesn’t realize is the seedy hotel he checked into is actually the front for a busy gay [...]
