Futurama, Vol. 1

The first season of Futurama finds its space-legs quickly, so get into the action from the beginning. Travel 1000 years into the future with Fry in Space Pilot, see the Isaac Asimov homage I Roomate, discover the William Shatneresque Zapp Brannigan in Love’s Labours Lost in Space, wonder at the future’s take on Willy Wonka’s [...]

20 Centimeters

As though it isn’t hard enough to have to handle the regular crap of being a pre-op tranny with crazy friends, a girl has to deal with narcolepsy on top of it all? Music, please!

First a Girl

Long before Victor/Victoria, there was First A Girl. In this wonderful 1935 gem, Elizabeth hits the vaudeville big time by being a drag king pretending to be a drag queen. We couldn’t help ourselves, we laughed the whole way through this lovely, silly movie. Great Buddy Night choice.

Hedwig and the Angry Inch

Self-absorbed rock opera about a self-absorbed singer who stalks her thieving, unjustly successful ex-boyfriend and triumphs in the end. Surprisingly good drag king turn by Miriam Shor (‘Swingtown’, ‘Damages’) as Yitzhak, the hapless bandmate hopelessly smitten with a Tommy-obsessed Hedwig.

Camp

You like “Glee” and “Fame”? You’ll love “Camp”. Singing, dancing teens of all persuasions learn about life, love, diversity and self-expression. Some darn fine musical numbers, too. A mostly-queer “High School Musical”, only with really talented people.

Were the World Mine

Okay, so this is really more of a gayboy movie, but it’s still a whole lot of singin’, dancin’ queer fun. Timothy’s uptight little town full of Fundies is playing his last few nerves, so he cooks up a love potion that turns everyone into a raving fabulous homo with predictably hilarious results. Good mixed-crowd [...]

Down & Out With the Dolls

Fauna is a big punk rock frog in an less than tiny little pond. When she hooks up with Kali, Reggie and Lavender, she sees the girls as her ticket to the big time. But when they throw a big, debauched album-debut party at The Dollhouse (their crashpad), and things go terribly wrong…. well, who [...]

The Ritz

Rita Moreno gives one of the most memorable performances of her career in this timeless, over-the-top 1975 comedy classic. Naive, fat schlub Gaetano Proclo needs a safe place to hide out from the mob, pronto – what he doesn’t realize is the seedy hotel he checked into is actually the front for a busy gay [...]
