THE LESBIAN ROMANCE COLLECTION BUTTERFLY KISS A Film by Michael Winterbottom (24 Hour Party People) Eunice (Amanda Plummer), an unpredictable social outcast, one day meets Miriam (Saskia Reeves), a beautiful yet withdrawn gas station attendant, and before long the two are on the road and in love. Even when Eunice starts murdering horny truckers and pesky salesmen, Miriam believes she can save Eunice. The question is, can Miriam make Eunice good before Eunice makes Miriam bad? "An icily comic powerhouse film!" -Cosmopolitan "A taut work of rigor and complexity, laced with flashes of pitch-dark humor!" -Los Angeles Times PEACH, A BITTER SONG & LAVENDER LIMELIGHT Starring Lucy Lawless Featuring the Amazonian star of Xena: Warrior Princess as you've never seen her before, Peach stars Lucy Lawless as a sexy tow truck driver attracted to a young Maori woman. In A Bitter Song (Lucy's first film role!), she plays a kind nurse who helps a troubled young girl. These two short films helped introduce Lucy to the world before she became Xena. "Startlingly intimate - just looking at her will make you mop your brow!" -NY Press The DVD also includes the hour-long documentary Lavender Limelight: Lesbians in Film, which goes behind the scenes with candid interviews of America's most successful lesbian directors. THE WATERMELON WOMAN A Film by Cheryl Dunye Cheryl Dunye's debut feature is as controversial as it is sexy and funny. Dunye's character (Cheryl) is a twenty-something black lesbian working as a clerk in a video store while struggling to make a documentary about Fae Richards, an obscure black actress from the 1930's. Cheryl is surprised to discover that Richards (known popularly as "the Watermelon Woman") had a white lesbian lover. At the same time, Cheryl falls in love with a very cute white customer at the video store (Guinevere Turner from Go Fish). Such are the complexities of race and sex in this startlingly fresh debut, which has been attacked by conservative Congressmen for having been funded by the NEA and lavishly praised in the editorial pages for being charming and courageous. "Dazzling! Imagine Woody Allen refashioned as an African American lesbian." - New York Press |
